Minnesotans Now Say This Thanksgiving Side Dish Is The Best
While Minnesota is the top turkey-producing state in the country, it's not turkey that's the favorite at many Minnesota Thanksgiving dinners. It's a side dish, and thanks to a new survey, we now just which side is the favorite here in Minnesota.
The Thanksgiving holiday is a uniquely American tradition, filled with tons of food and a gathering together with family and friends as we express our gratitude. According to the National Archives Museum, the First Thanksgiving was held back in 1621 near Plymouth, Massachusetts, to 'mark a successful harvest' that year.
If it seems like Thanksgiving is late this year, you're right-- it is. The Farmers' Almanac notes that since 1941, Thanksgiving has been held on the fourth Thursday in November. And with the holiday falling on Thursday, Nov. 27th this year, that makes it one of the latest dates possible for Thanksgiving. Last year's date of November 28th was *the* latest possible date!

This means we've all had to wait nearly a week longer this year to sink our teeth into all that amazing Thanksgiving food. But in addition to the turkey and all those amazing side dishes that will grace many tables across the Land of 10,000 Lakes this Thanksgiving, just *which* one is our favorite?
That's the question the crew over at Campbell's tackled, with their annual 'State of the Sides' report. Their annual survey confirms that while turkey takes the center stage, we're actually all about the sides:
- 63% prefer eating the sides instead of the entree
- 47% say they'd be happy with a Thanksgiving plate full of sides and nothing else
- 66% enjoy cooking the sides instead of the turkey
- 85% agree that leftovers featuring those sides are one of the best parts of Thanksgiving
And here in the Bold North, we join 41 other states in the survey that said our favorite Thanksgiving side dish was... stuffing! That classic side also topped the list behind the Cheddar Curtain over in Wisconsin, as well as in Nebraska and both North and South Dakota. Iowa, however, says mashed potatoes are the best side dish this year.
And btw, in case you're curious: Delish.com says the difference between stuffing and dressing is where it's cooked: Stuffing is cooked inside the turkey, while dressing is usually baked or roasted in a separate dish. So now you know.
