A Thanksgiving tradition is ready to once again hit the street in downtown Duluth! The Gobble Gallop 5K Run/Walk is back and there is still time to get registered.

I've run every Gobble Gallop, including virtually during the pandemic, and I remember the first one had hundreds of runners and now it's grown to a huge event that involves thousands of runners participating in the 5K, a 1-mile race, and a kids event.

Unfortunately, due to two torn calf tendons, I will need to sit this one out (unless I find something to drag my lag in), but I will be there to cheer on all those I know participating and have a cocktail with them afterward.

The Gobble Gallop 5K is an out-and-back through downtown Duluth, starting on London Road at the Rose Garden. The course follows London Rd south onto Superior Street to 5th Ave. W and back.

The Tough Turkey 1-Mile is an out-and-back on London Road. The route starts on London Road near the Rose Garden and follows London Rd onto Superior Street to the turnaround in front of the Fitger's building.

The Gobble Giddy Up 1/4-Mile Kids Run run starts near the Rose Garden on London Road and follows London Rd to the 10th Ave E intersection and back.

Here is the race day schedule for Thanksgiving morning, November 23:

  • 8:40am-Start of the Gobble Giddy Up Kid’s 1/4 Mile
  • 9:00am-Start of the Tough Turkey 1-Mile
  • 9:30am-Start of the Gobble Gallop 5K
  • 10:30am-Awards Ceremony

You can get full details on each event and register now through the button below. A Gobble Gallop winter hat is included with registration, while supplies last.

100% of all participant, individual, and sponsor donations from the Gobble Gallop will go directly to Safe Haven, as well as a portion of the overall Gobble Gallop proceeds. Safe Haven provides hope to survivors of domestic violence.

Participants can pick up their race packets at Duluth Running Co., located at 1026 E Superior Street in Duluth. Race packets will be available on Tuesday, November 21 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and Wednesday, November 22 from noon to 6 pm.

Race packets will also be available for pickup on race day, November 23rd, from 7:30 am to 9:15 am, at the Start/Finish Area (12th Ave E & London Rd)

On the day of the Gobble Gallop races, Superior Street will be closed from 10th Avenue E. to 5th Avenue W., and London Road will be closed from 10th Avenue E. and Superior Street to 14th Avenue E.

Parking is available in the Rose Garden parking lot, at 13th Avenue E., but it fills up quickly. On-street parking is available at the following locations:

  • Superior Street east of 10th Avenue E.
  • London Road east of 14th Avenue
  • Surrounding avenues between 11th and 5th E.

One thing that makes the Gobble Gallop a lot of fun is seeing all the people dressed up in Thanksgiving gear for the event. From turkey hats to full costumes, there's an increasing amount of creativity in the costumes every year. Even if you're not participating, it's a lot of fun to cheer for all involved.
