
UPDATE: Official Details Released On Officer-Involved Death In Wisconsin
On the night of Tuesday, April 7, news broke regarding a heavy police presence and crime tape in Superior, Wisconsin.
The incident unfolded outside the Northern Aire Apartments in the 1700 block of Oakes Avenue in Superior, which is between 18 Oakes Park and the Super One store.
Details were hard to confirm early on, but as time went on, more information was made available, and it became apparent that there had been an officer-involved death. On the morning of Wednesday, April 8, more details were released from the Superior Police Department and, ultimately, the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ).
Wisconsin DOJ Issues Press Release Regarding Officer-Involved Death
The Superior Police Department notified the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), which responded to the scene.
While there is now a full investigation taking place, the DOJ released the following information on the incident:
At 9:47 p.m. Tuesday, a Superior Police Department officer located a wanted person in the 1700 block of Oakes Avenue in the City of Superior. Alongside the wanted person were two additional subjects. As the officer approached, one of the additional subjects attempted to flee the scene. The officer and this subject engaged in a physical altercation. During the altercation, the officer discharged their weapon, striking the subject. In addition, a firearm was also recovered from the scene.
Life-saving measures were rendered to the subject, but the subject was deceased on scene. The involved officer sustained an injury during the incident and was transported to a local hospital, and is in stable condition.
The involved law enforcement officer was wearing a body-worn camera during the
incident. The officer will be placed on paid administrative leave, per the agency’s policy.

DCI is leading this investigation and is assisted by a DCI Crime Response Specialist and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Involved law enforcement is fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation. DCI
is continuing to review evidence and determine the facts of this incident, and will turn over the investigative reports to the Douglas County District Attorney’s office when the investigation concludes.
UPDATE: The man who was fatally shot by a Superior Police Officer has been identified as 42-year-old David Donald Ducado Menton of Solon Springs, Wisconsin. A GoFundMe page has been established on his behalf.
