Sometimes a business goes to market, and it's easy to see that it's more than just another real estate listing or another business simply changing hands; it's an important moment in the community.

That is very much the case with the Buckhorn Supper Club in Milton, Wisconsin, which is why the fact that it is now for sale is making headlines throughout the state.

The Buckhorn Supper Club is a classic lakeside dining experience that has been welcoming guests on the shores of Lake Koshkonong for over 90 years.

Now, after nearly 30 years under the same family's ownership, it is on the market, and the family says it is a bittersweet moment.

A Wisconsin Supper Club Since The 1930s

The Buckhorn has been a Lake Koshkonong landmark since the 1930s, part of a proud Wisconsin tradition of supper clubs that took root after Prohibition ended in 1933, when farmhouse taverns and roadside dining rooms evolved into full-service destination restaurants with lakeside views, dressed-up menus, and top-shelf hospitality.

The Buckhorn has built its reputation on the classics done right: slow-roasted prime rib, broasted chicken, the finest cuts of steak, fresh seafood, and a large wine and drink list.

The lakeside patio is one of its most beloved features, and the restaurant is well known among boaters who pull up to its illuminated docks directly from Lake Koshkonong.

The supper club had its brush with fame when it was featured in the book and documentary Wisconsin Supper Clubs: An Old-Fashioned Experience, placing it among the most recognized supper clubs in the state.

Nearly 30 Years In The Pope Family

The Pope family purchased the Buckhorn in the late 1990s, with Chico and Dawn Pope taking over the restaurant and carrying on its legacy through the decades that followed.

They eventually passed it on to their daughter, Shelley, who has continued the family tradition of hospitality and community for which the Buckhorn is known.

However, after nearly three decades and two generations, the family has made the bittersweet decision to sell the supper club.

What's For Sale

The Buckhorn Supper Club is currently listed at $1,600,000 and includes the full restaurant operation at 11802 N. Charley Bluff Road in Milton.

The property sits directly on Lake Koshkonong, featuring 280 feet of prime lake frontage and docking access, and the full infrastructure of a well-established, multi-decade dining destination.

For buyers, this is a rare opportunity to take over a named, recognized Wisconsin supper club with an established customer base, a strong reputation, and a lakeside setting that cannot be replicated. Whoever takes the next chapter of the Buckhorn will have a lot to build on and a lot to live up to.
