The Surprising Fact About MSP Airport You May Not Know
Is it Minneapolis? St. Paul? Bloomington? Just which city is home to Minnesota's MSP Airport? The answer may surprise you!
Our own Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) is the largest airport in the North Star State. So it's no surprise that a LOT of Minnesotans (and Iowans and Wisconsinites and others) head through the TSA checkpoints at MSP each year when traveling across the country and overseas.
MSP says airlines served 156 nonstop destinations from the North Star State in 2023, up from 145 destinations in 2022. And, of course, MSP also noted that it was once again named the best airport in North America for the third year in a row, and for the seventh time in the last eight years.

+ Allegiant Airlines
+ American Airlines
+ Condor Airlines
+ Delta Air Lines
+ Denver Air
+ Frontier Airlines
+ Icelandair

So, it's likely that most Minnesotans have passed through MSP Airport's Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 at least once or twice. But just *where* is the sprawling airport complex here in the Bold North actually located?
Seeing as the entrance to MSP's Terminal 1 is located off I-494 across from Bloomington-based Ikea and the Mall of America, I'd always assumed it is also located in the city of Bloomington. But we all know what happens when you assume, right?
To try to pinpoint precisely which Minnesota municipality MSP is located in, I checked MSP Airport's official mailing address. But that only led to more confusion, because while MSP Terminal One is located at 4300 Glumack Drive in St. Paul, the official mailing address for MSP Terminal Two is 7150 Humphrey Drive in Minneapolis.

So the airport isn't in Bloomington at all, it's in both Minneapolis AND St. Paul?!? However, MSP's website actually solved this strange location mystery as well:
MSP is not part of any city but is nestled among several. The airport is surrounded by Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the suburban cities of Bloomington, Eagan, Mendota Heights and Richfield. Because of this central location, you aren't far from anywhere in the metro community when you land at MSP.
So, there you go. Officially, no specific Minnesota city can claim MSP Airport as its own. Who knew? I'll be putting this one in the 'You Learn Something New About Minnesota Everyday' file!
And while I'm guessing most Minnesotans perhaps didn't know this unique fact about our largest airport, many likely *do* know how to correctly pronounce the uniquely Minnesotan names of some of our cities here in the Gopher State. Keep scrolling to see how many YOU know how to say.
