Delta Air Lines Is Now Changing Its Boarding Process In Minnesota

If you're flying on Delta Air Lines out of Minnesota soon, you'll notice a change in the way you board the plane.

Delta Air Lines is the biggest airline serving the Land of 10,000 Lakes from the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP). In fact, Delta Air Lines transported 20,254,475 Minnesotans last year, good for 68.13 percent of all passengers at MSP.

So when Delta announced that they're making a change in the way they board passengers, it got my attention. So what is Delta changing? Actually, not much-- but things will sound different during the boarding process.

According to the travel site, The Points Guy, Delta will transition to boarding by numbered zones, instead of boarding by the specific group titles the airline has been using:

Right now, Delta boards its planes with "branded zones," such as Delta One and Main Cabin 2. Under the new scheme, the airline will use zones 1 through 8 to reflect each of the existing groups.

CBS News said that the new boarding process means that Delta passengers will now have a zone number assigned to them, instead of boarding groups that had been labeled by airline status or fare class, like Delta's 'Sky Priority.'

CBS News also noted that Delta switched from zone boarding to its current 'branded zones' back in 2018. Now, it's switching back to numbered zone boarding, which it says will speed up the boarding process. The new change is set to start May 1st here in the North Star State and at Delta Air Lines gates at airports across the country.

Things have been going pretty well for the largest airline here in Minnesota. After awarding its employees a massive profit-sharing check earlier this year, Delta was named the best airline in the country for the second time in three years in the Wall Street Journal's latest survey.
