Minnesotans love a good deal, and Black Friday is known for having many of them. But we now know where you need to shop to take advantage of the best deals this season.

Black Friday in Minnesota can sometimes feel like a sport, where scoring the best deals feels like winning a championship. But whether you're hunting for cozy winter gear or the latest tech gadgets, we’ve rounded up the hottest spots to shop for the best deals in the Land of 10,000 Lakes this year.

Black Friday is big business not only here in the North Star State, but across the country. In fact, the National Retail Federation says that holiday spending in 2024 is predicted to hit a whopping $989 billion this year — a nearly 3.5 percent increase over last year.

Individual shoppers are expected to spend a record $902 per person on average this year, across gifts, food, decorations, and other seasonal items, according to the National Retail Federation’s latest consumer survey.

And a lot of us WILL be doing at least some shopping this Black Friday. Personal-finance website WalletHub said last year’s Black Friday sales drew 76.2 million Americans to shop in person with another 90.6 million shopping online.

But just where should you spend your money to get the best holiday deals this Black Friday? That's the question the crew at Wallet Hub set out to answer. WalletHub surveyed over 4,300 deals from 13 of the biggest U.S. retailers’ 2024 Black Friday ads and found that shopping sales on Black Friday can save you up to 38 percent, on average!

Specifically, here are the stores where WalletHub says you'll find the Best Black Friday deals, along with their average discount:

  1. JC Penney (76.20%)
  2. Belk (72.68%)
  3. Macy's (57.13%)
  4. Kohl's (43.55%)
  5. Walmart (37.5%)
  6. The Home Depot (32.43%)
  7. Amazon (32.05%)
  8. BJ's Wholesale Club (28.86%)
  9. Target (28.65%)
  10. Best Buy (28.43%)

Two of those stores, Belk and BJ's Wholesale Club, don't currently have any physical locations here in Minnesota, though you might be able to take advantage of some online Black Friday deals.

Overall, WalletHub noted that tech gadgets including computers and phones will make up over 30% of those Black Friday deals, with jewelry responsible for 13% while clothing and apparel make up over 12%. Electronics, appliances, toys, and furniture are also categories where can find significant deals, as well.
