The Rule That 21% of Minnesotans Have Never Heard Of
According to PriceGrabber.com, a rule that was established back in the Gilded Age is one that 21% of Minnesotans have never heard.
While this "rule" was the norm for many decades and started most likely because it helped people stay cool during the hot summers, some famous celebrities bucked the trend. The first to do so was Coco Chanel.
What is this rule that about a fourth of our population doesn't know? I reveal the answer in the video below.
21% of People Have Never Heard About The Labor Day Rule
According to Vogue, the white clothing rule most likely started during the Gilded Age, when the wealthier population would leave the big city during the summer months. As they were away, white clothing helped them stay cool, helped conceal sweat, and also became a status symbol. After Labor Day, the vacationers would head back to the city, where dirt roads and poor sanitation made white clothing very impractical. Summer whites were traded for darker clothing after this holiday.

While 66% of people today think that this rule is severely outdated, this was still considered the norm in the 1950s. In fact, several fashion magazines during that time frame let women know that Labor Day was when you pulled out the fall outfits and stored away the summer gear.
Can You Wear White After Labor Day Now?
I'm not a fashion expert, so I reached out to those who are to find out that answer. According to Emily Post, an etiquette expert, you are allowed to wear white every day of the year. Southern Living recommends that if you are planning to wear white in the fall or winter, you should find some winter white colors and complement these softer colors with layers.
