Worthington, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Minnesota sheriff’s deputy is fighting for his life after being involved in a crash on Interstate 90.

The State Patrol responded to the crash shortly after 4:30 Sunday afternoon. Two vehicles were involved in the collision. 

Nobles County Sheriff's Deputy Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries in Crash Near Worthington, MN

The crash occurred on westbound I-90 about eight miles west of Worthington. The squad vehicle was struck by a westbound SUV, according to the state crash report

30-year-old Arnold Logan Waldner of Worthington was identified as the occupant of the squad vehicle. He was taken from the scene to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, the State Patrol says.

A news release issued after the crash by the Nobles County Sheriff's Office says Waldner has been a deputy sheriff in Nobles County for two years. He was still in critical condition as of Monday afternoon. 

“Please continue to hold Deputy Waldner in your thoughts and prayers,” said Nobles County Sheriff Ryan Kruger. 

A fundraising effort for Deputy Waldner has been set up at First State Bank Southwest in Worthington. The Nobles County Sheriff’s Office is also accepting donations, cards and  well-wishes at their office in Worthington. 

The State Patrol identified the other driver as 63-year-old Theresa Ann Bear of Sioux Falls, SD. She was brought to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol was not involved in the crash and Deputy Waldner was not wearing his seatbelt, the state crash report indicates.
