Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Olmsted County Attorney’s Office has filed a felony charge against a Twin Cities man accused of fleeing an Olmsted County Sheriff’s Deputy at a high rate of speed.

The criminal complaint, filed in Olmsted County Court Monday, alleges the fleeing incident happened this past July. The high-speed chase occurred on Hwy. 52. Court documents state the deputy first spotted the vehicle traveling north on Hwy. 52 shortly after 8:30 a.m. at the 85th St. Northwest overpass.

The deputy began following the vehicle after seeing items hanging from its ceiling and noticing the driver was a middle-aged white man even though the vehicle was registered to a woman. The deputy followed the vehicle into a single-lane construction zone and reported its left blinker was on while it went through the construction area, the complaint says.

Court documents say the suspect vehicle then entered the right lane after exiting the work zone with its left blinker still on. The deputy then activated the squad car’s lights to initiate a traffic stop.

At that point the vehicle rapidly accelerated and entered the left lane where it began passing other vehicles, the complaint says. The deputy gave chase but terminated the pursuit after his squad, which was reported to be traveling at 120 mph, was being outrun by the suspect vehicle that was traveling on the left shoulder. The suspect vehicle was estimated to be traveling 140-150 mph.
