Duluth, MN (MinnesotaNow)- Authorities in northern Minnesota are investigating a fatal fire.

A news release issued by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says first responders were called to a structure fire around 1:00 Monday afternoon. 

Preliminary reports indicated a pole building was on fire and that one person, who was possibly inside of the burning structure, was unaccounted for. 

Body of 76-Year-Old Man Found at Scene of Duluth Area Fire

The deadly fire broke out at a property in the 6700 block of Rice Lake Rd., which is about 15 miles north of downtown Duluth. 

Officials say the structure was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters got to the scene and that fire conditions prevented crews from launching an immediate search and rescue. 

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and began conducting their search for the missing individual. Investigators then found the body of the unaccounted for person around 8:10 Monday night. 

The news release describes the deceased person as a 76-year-old man from Duluth. Authorities have not yet identified the individual and plan to release his name upon identification and notification of next of kin. 

The cause of the fire is not available. The deadly blaze remains under investigation, the news release says.
