When Can Minnesota Expect It’s First Inch Of Snow?
If you enjoyed the cooler stretch of weather that we had recently, you'll be excited to know that some weather forecasters are starting to call their shots as to when parts of Minnesota will see their first inch of fresh snow. The good news for those people who enjoy warmer weather is that we are about 5 weeks out. Here's what at least one weather page is saying about Minnesota's first 'measurable' snowfall.
Get Your Shovels Ready In September?
Not so fast, my friends, you won't need to WD-40 your snow shovels just yet, but the likelihood that we see measurable snow in September isn't ever zero. But according to one online weather page, parts of Northern and Central Minnesota could be seeing their first inch of fresh snow sometime in the 2nd half of October, which to me seems about average.
"A warm-up is expected for the middle and end of September that will likely keep accumulating snow from happening until October, even in the Upper Midwest. However, there are signs of ridging that will develop over and south of Alaska as we get deeper into October that will likely bring in below freezing temperatures and a relatively active pattern for the first accumulating snow for quite a few areas. It is possible some areas south of I-90 sees first accumulating snow the end of next month but I'm more confident in a November first snowfall for many areas south of I-90."
Midwest Weather Is Calling Their Shot
The online weather page, known as Midwest Weather, is calling its shot for snowfall across the Upper Midwest. North Dakota, a majority of Minnesota, the UP, and parts of Wisconsin are all predicted to get their first inch of snowfall in the second half of October, or roughly in 5-8 weeks.
The October snowfall would be considered early for many areas around the Twin Cities, as the median date for an inch of snowfall in Minnesota is November 15th. The National Weather Service is saying November 4th for that distinction.
A majority of South Dakota, Southern Minnesota, Northern Iowa, the rest of Wisconsin, and a portion of Michigan are slated to see their first inch of snow in early November.
Farmers' Almanac Calling For A Repeating Pattern This Winter
The Farmers' Almanac, which some people consider the bible for different things, is calling for a pattern this winter, and some people aren't going to like it. The Farmers' Almanac has dubbed our upcoming winter season as being "Chill, Snow, Repeat".
Soak Up The Sun & Warmth Now
We've got time until the first real snowfall, so get out and enjoy the sunshine and warmth, as when it's gone, we've got a few months until it returns.
