Ready For Decem-brr? Monthly Temperature Outlook For Minnesota
A long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
That's how the 1996 Counting Crows song, A Long December starts off. If you are a fan of winter and the cold temperatures that come with it, you'll enjoy what the National Weather Service is predicting in terms of December weather. If you aren't a fan of cold weather, you might want to stop reading.
Below Average Temps Are Coming
According to the National Weather Service, as they released their most recent 30 and 90-day outlooks, December, as well as the rest of winter, is looking to bring Minnesotans below-average temperatures.
The picture above is what NOAA is predicting for temperatures for December, and as you can see, Minnesota is shaded in blue, which means we are expecting to see below-average temperatures for the month.
In fact, I've seen some VERY EARLY models showing another polar vortex event happening around Christmas, and I will say these are the same places that had our recent snow event predicted back in late October.
A Long December, January, and February Ahead
If you are not a fan of the colder weather, it's going to be a long winter, at least in terms of dealing with the cold. NOAA has predicted that over the next 90-ish days, we are going to see below-average temperatures, which hopefully is good news for some of the seasonal winter businesses in Minnesota that haven't had great snow years in the past.
This Was Expected If You Follow The Weather In The NW
There was a chance that we were going to have a colder-than-normal winter, based on the temperature of the ocean just off the Pacific Northwest coast. You can read about how that affects our weather here in Minnesota, here.
