Earlier this fall, the City of Duluth announced they were launching their own version of the "name a snowplow" voting contest similar to the one MNDOT and other government entities across the country have in recent years.

One of the unique elements to Duluth's contest when compared to others is that the City of Duluth is offering a prize package of sorts to the person who submitted the winning name suggestion.

What's the prize?

It's a neat, "Duluth-y" package that includes a photo opportunity with the plow that is receiving your name as well as the plow's crew, the chance to ride in the Christmas City of the North Parade in November in the plow truck, and "unlimited bragging rights".

After a few weeks of receiving name suggestion submissions, city officials narrowed the field from over 300 suggestions down to 10 finalists.

While several of the 10 finalists are fairly generic winter references, there are some creative locally-inspired name suggestions that include things like local landmark names, regional references, and even a name using an Indigenous word.

Voting is now underway, with votes being collected via the City of Duluth website through November 4.

After the votes are tabulated, the winner will be notified on November 11 before the name is officially unveiled, going on to make its first public appearance during the 2024 Christmas City of the North Parade, which is scheduled for Friday, November 22.

Here's a look at all 10 finalist names. Give them a look and place your vote before voting wraps up on November 4!
