
Explaining What -30 Weather Is Like To A Non-Minnesotan
At least we don't have hurricanes, right? We're currently in the coldest snap of the year, and it's just getting colder in the next few days. We're looking at windchills across the state of Minnesota at -30 below zero. Some places near the Canadian border could see temperatures -30 to -40.
People from down south have no idea what cold is. They come here when it's 20 degrees above and complain about how cold it is, while we are wearing a hoodie and sneakers in the snow.
Over the years, I've shared some strange things that happen when it's this cold to outsiders, and they honestly have a hard time believing it. Like when you take a pot of boiling water and throw it outside, and it vaporizes before it hits the ground. (Try it sometime.)

We live in a place where just being outside for a few minutes can kill you. I've been on snowmobiling trips at the hunting shack, where we would use the buddy system if we had to go outside to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. If you slip and fall, or faint outside, you're dead in minutes when it's this cold!
