Owner Of Minnesota’s Lutsen Lodge Now Faces Charges For Devastating Fire

Early in February of 2024, Cook County Dispatch received reports of a fire alarm at Lutsen Resort in Minnesota, with reports indicating that smoke was seen coming from the floor in the lobby of the resort.

Responding units included the Lutsen Fire Department, Tofte Fire Department, Tofte First Responders, Grand Marais FD, Maple Hill FD, Gunflint FD, Finland FD, Silver Bay FD, Grand Portage FD, and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, who discovered the building was completely engulfed in flames.

Ultimately, what once was a landmark on Minnesota's North Shore was destroyed. Thankfully, there were no injuries.

However, the was a lot of speculation regarding the cause of the fire, especially when it was discovered that a recent Minnesota state fire inspection at Lutsen Lodge found 7 violations. That led some to believe that owner Bryce Campbell's behavior may have played a role in the fire.

The speculation grew when FOX 9 reported that in the days before the blaze, multiple cabin owners filed lawsuits against the resort, claiming they were owed money.

Campbell responded by shaming the public for the speculation and the rumors that he had anything to do with the fire. "STOP. Shame on so many of you. The damage that has been done is going beyond a building. This tragedy should only be about the loss of such an important icon and the people affected by it, including so much of our team", his statement said in part.

Since then, authorities have continued to investigate the Lutsen fire, and now, nearly two years after the incident, an arrest has been made that brings owner Bryce Campbell back into the spotlight.

Authorities Announce The Arrest Of  Lutsen Lodge Owner Bryce Campbell

On Thursday, December 4, 2025, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the State Fire Marshal, and the Cook County Attorney’s Office announced that Bryce Campbell had been arrested and is reportedly being charged with arson and insurance fraud in the Lutsen Resort fire.

Online jail records from Oakland County, Michigan, confirm that Campbell is currently in custody there. Authorities have a press conference planned to provide a full update on the arrest and the charges that were filed.
