There has been plenty of good news regarding new stores opening this year in Northern Minnesota.

The Miller Hill Mall in Duluth, which first opened on July 25, 1973, made two separate announcements this year to celebrate new store openings.  First came the return of Cinnabon, which opened in Center Court to the left of Claire’s, and then there was the addition of Mythic Mercantile, a pop-up shop across from Helzberg Diamonds.

Then, the mall welcomed national fragrance retailer Perfumania, which opened this fall across from Cinnabon, and then Windsor, a fashion destination for women’s apparel, accessories, and special occasion wear, which opened across from Five Below near JCPenney Court.

However, that run of good news has now been met with a little bad, as a national retailer that has been in the Miller Hill Mall for over 9 years is closing its Duluth location.

FYE Is Closing Its Miller Hill Mall Location

FYE (For Your Entertainment) is a national retailer that operates across the U.S. and Canada, selling a wide variety of collectibles, apparel, music, movies, snacks, and other pop culture items.

On October 21, 2016, FYE opened inside the Miller Hill Mall, marking its second location in Minnesota. The other is currently located inside the Maplewood Mall in St. Paul.

While I was out Christmas shopping recently, I was disappointed to see huge signs posted at the store which said everything was on sale and "Everything Must Go!"

Of course, those are obvious signs that a store is about to close, and as I walked inside, that became very clear. Most of the shelves along the walls were empty, and most of the remaining inventory was pushed to the middle of the store with discount signs assigned to it.

I asked the person working behind the counter when they were officially closing up, and she thought that would happen around January 25. However, based on the inventory that I saw available on December 9, I would be surprised if they had much left to sell by then.
