Duluth Named Among Most ‘Hippie’ Towns In The Country
I will cheers to this! Duluth was just given quite the title and it might not be a title that screams Duluth, if you know what I mean.
Thrillist just granted Duluth the title. Thrillist, by the way, is an online website that covers all things travel for those that have the travel itch.
Duluth has gained quite a bit of recognition over the past few years and our popularity keeps growing. For example, Ursa Minor was recently featured by the Food Network, out of all the breweries in the country.
A Duluth coffee shop also held its own against some big names in a recent poll by the USA Today. Like I said, we are killing it. Now we have another unique title to add to our roster.
What Makes A Town A 'Hippie' Town, According To Thrillist
According to Thrillist, a hippie in this instance is a 'free spirit' who loves to wander and roam and break free from the everyday way of doing things. This also fits the Britannica description of a hippie.

According to that definition, a hippie is someone who has 'rejected the mores of mainstream American life' like medicine, certain diets and the like. These definitions are pretty similar so you catch my drift.

Thrillist released a list of the most hippie town in each state and Duluth got the title for Minnesota. This also means it was named one of the most hippie towns in America!

Why did we make the cut? According to their short blip about the Zenith City, it is the incredible outdoor recreation that we have that make it a top destination for 'hippie recreation' like camping, hiking and doing all things outdoors.
Of course, they also cited our proximity to Lake Superior and the popular rock bands that hail from Duluth, the most famous being Trampled By Turtles.
When I think of the word hippie, I think of camping and living an active lifestyle! I guess that fits. I love a laid back lifestyle.
