The first big winter storm for this season is hitting portions of Minnesota and Wisconsin just before the Thanksgiving holiday, which is horrible timing for those hoping to travel right now.

On Monday, the National Weather Service issued a series of Winter Storm Watches to prepare people in the areas of impact for what was to come. By Tuesday evening, many areas were officially issued Winter Storm Warnings.

Now, as the storm begins to make an impact, the National Weather Service has upgraded the Winter Storm Warnings in 4 Wisconsin counties into Blizzard Warnings, with up to 30 inches of snow now possible in one area, along with powerful winds.

For everyone under a Blizzard Warning, the NWS says that travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.

Remember, updated road conditions can be found by calling 511. They are also available at 511wi.gov in Wisconsin.
